Confusing traffic sign

These signs used to be placed in Albuquerque's (New Mexico) North Valley, where four curving roads came together. Fortunately, these roads were not heavily used. One can imagine all four cars yielding to each other, or, more likely, each car deciding it had the right-of-way.

The signs were changed after a year to 4-way Stop signs.
