Coal shovels on a coal-fired steam locomotive

Coal-fired steam locomotive on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Narrow-gauge Railway. These shovels are used to shovel coal into the boiler of the locomotive.

The interior of this part of the engine is coated with a thick layer of coal dust, making black the only color.
