Description

Juniperus scopulorum. Common in the upper pinyon-juniper and lower Ponderosa pine zone of western North America. Usually has a single trunk. The branchlets tend to be flat and vertically oriented, giving the tree a lacy appearance. The needles are coated with a white-bluish wax, a condition known by biologists as "glaucous."
