Rootball of a dead juniper

Description

Big swirl of different wood grains, created when roots and trunks wound around one another, avoiding rocks in the soil. This was a One-seed Juniper, Juniperus monosperma.

The green needles in the background are from a nearby live Pinyon pine; they are not part of this dead juniper.
