These chimney rocks are near Ghost Ranch, and display the colorful striped sandstone of that region. Chimney rocks are created when a narrow mesa erodes back on both sides, leaving a long, narrow "peninsula." Weak parts of that peninsula then erode or collapse, leaving the remaining parts standing like towers.
