Unusual weather phenomenon
Description
Shadows of fence wires have protected narrow strips of snow, resulting in small, narrow parallel ridges on the undulating surface of the snow.
More detail: the fence runs almost directly E-W. At midwinter, the sun's arch across the sky is shallow, so the wire shadows move very little nearer-farther from the fence. In this location in northern New Mexico with very dry air, the sun sublimates the snow as much as melts it; thus the wire shadows doubly protect the snow.
