Description

Cercocarpus montanus. Mountain mahogany species are widespread throughout the western U.S. growing in pinyon-juniper woodlands and Ponderosa pine forests. Each seed develops a long feathery plume which aids in seed dispersal. It may also help drill the seed into the soil.
