Rincon Colorado No. 1

Description

The name Rincon Colorado properly applies to the colorful sandstone cliffs in the background. But I find the term more appropriate for this shale formation in pink, red, orange, and a multitude of purples (and even some grays). The colorful shale is a member of the Chinle formation; and the white "sandstone" layer at the top of the cliffs is actually compressed/welded pumice (volcanic ash).

All is set off by the azure New Mexico sky, highlighted by white and silver clouds.
